A candidate should possess an active and valid license to surveyor in the State of Alabama with knowledge of GPS and total station operation. We use Autodesk products as well as Carlson software. Knowledge of either is a requirement. SENTELL ENGINEERING INC. specializes in boundary, topographic and construction surveys. Position involves supervision of survey crews from job creation to final product.

    Job description

    Position Overview: As a Civil CAD Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting our civil construction projects by creating accurate and detailed technical drawings using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software for use in construction staking and 3d modeling. The ideal candidate will have experience in civil engineering drafting and or construction survey drafting, knowledge of industry standards, and the ability to collaborate effectively with surveying teams & design engineers.

    Responsibilities:

    • CAD Drafting for Civil Construction Projects: Produce detailed civil construction models, as-built drawings and survey stakeout data using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D). Ensure drawings adhere to industry standards and project specifications.

    • Collaboration: Work closely with land surveyors and project managers to understand project requirements and objectives. Incorporate design changes and updates into drawings and or construction models based on feedback.

    • Quantity Takeoffs: Assist in the preparation of quantity takeoffs and material estimates from civil engineering drawings. Collaborate with project teams to ensure accurate and comprehensive takeoff data.

    • Quality Control: Review and verify the accuracy of survey drawings, and or construction models, identifying and correcting errors or discrepancies. Ensure compliance with regulatory and permitting requirements.

    • Documentation: Organize and maintain project files, ensuring all documentation is up to date. Prepare and update drawings to reflect design changes and project updates.

    Qualifications:

    • Education: Associate degree in drafting or 3d modeling or certification in Civil Engineering Technology or a related field is preferred.

    • Experience: Proven experience as a Civil CAD Technician in a civil engineering, surveying, or related industry. Familiarity with intelliCAD, AutoCAD or Civil3d and other relevant CAD tools. Implementation of construction models to heavy equipment is a plus.  

    • Technical Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, with a focus on civil engineering applications and or construction surveying. Familiarity with civil engineering design principles and standards.

    The Jefferson County Commission is looking for a well-qualified, motivated Surveyor to plan, coordinate, direct and participate in the collection and recording of land survey data necessary to complete construction design plans. The Surveyor is responsible for setting up and operating surveying instruments with an engineering survey party involved in preliminary, special instruction, and final surveys. The Surveyor prepares to conduct surveys by reviewing maps and plans, replenishing supplies, and ensuring equipment is ready and functioning appropriately. The Surveyor inspects the work of the survey team for adherence to all policies and procedures and accuracy and document the daily work accomplished. Their work is performed under the direction of a supervisor and is reviewed for accuracy.     The Jefferson County Commission is looking for a well-qualified, motivated Surveying Party Chief to plan, coordinate, direct and participate in the collection and recording of land survey data necessary to complete construction design plans. The Survey Party Chief supervises the activities of engineering survey crews involved in preliminary, special instruction, and final surveys by applying survey knowledge gained through training and experience to a variety of field surveying situations. The Surveying Party Chief performs trigonometric, geometric, and algebraic calculations to calculate angles and reference point distances, grades, and location of slope stakes so surveying assignments are accurately completed. Reporting to the Principal Engineering Land Survey Inspector or a Chief Civil Engineer, the Surveying Party Chief work under general administrative supervision and their work is sometimes reviewed on-site after completion of the survey for compliance with professional standards.
