Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) – Birmingham, Alabama

We are seeking an experienced Professional Land Surveyor

to join our established surveying operation in Birmingham, Alabama.

This is an opportunity for an experienced surveyor who wants to take a meaningful role in an established business without necessarily being tied to a traditional office schedule every day. We are open to discussing a

hybrid work arrangement

for the right person.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience with

construction and site surveying

and be comfortable overseeing survey work from the field crew through final deliverables.

What we're looking for:

• Professional Land Surveyor licensed in Alabama, or previously licensed in Alabama with an inactive license that is eligible for reactivation
• Strong experience with construction/site surveying
• Experience with construction staking, boundary and topographic surveys, ALTA/NSPS surveys, as-builts, site plans and related field work
• Ability to review and oversee field data, calculations, plats and survey deliverables
• Working knowledge of modern surveying equipment, GPS/GNSS and survey software
• Ability to manage projects and work effectively with field crews, contractors, engineers, developers and property owners
• Strong understanding of Alabama surveying standards and professional requirements

Full-time; potential hybrid arrangement available

License:

Alabama PLS required — active or eligible for reactivation

We are particularly interested in someone who enjoys the practical side of surveying and understands construction sites — not simply someone looking for a review position. We are a small company, not a cube farm of cad draftsman.

Compensation will be competitive and based on experience, qualifications and the level of responsibility the candidate is prepared to take on.

Qualifications

• Current Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license in Alabama or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe.
• We use Carlson Software and field equipment
• Strong proficiency in Land Surveying and Surveying across commercial, residential, and infrastructure projects.
• Hands-on experience conducting Topographic Surveys and Building Surveying for design, planning, and compliance purposes.
• Ability to operate and troubleshoot Total Station and related surveying instruments and equipment.
• Current Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license in Alabama or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe.
• Working knowledge of surveying software, CAD tools, and relevant state and local regulations.
• Effective communication skills and ability to lead and mentor field staff safely and efficiently.
• Strong attention to detail, analytical mindset, and commitment to quality and accuracy.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to work outdoors in varying field conditions.
